Pampers Swaddlers

We have used these diapers from day 1 for my now 5-month old. I LOVE the wetness indicator stripe, it is so convenient! A month ago when we ordered a huge box of 1-2's they had the wetness indicator. This time (same size, same size box) they didn't! Packaging is exactly alike, but sometimes you get it and sometimes you don't??? I really hope they are not phasing it out and putting it only on the sensitives, and I wish you could tell if the diapers have the stripe by the outside packaging. It is a total shot in the dark whether or not the stripe will be on the diapers once you open the box... and when it's not there it's a total bummer :/

New Baby Care

The joy of a new baby is certainly special and something that all new parents experience. However, a lack of sleep is also part of having a new baby and new parents notoriously get very little sleep, if any at all. Fortunately, there are some strategies and tips to help new parents get some sleep when the new baby comes. Of course, with a baby you will never get an over abundance of sleep, but these tips will help you at least get enough sleep to keep your sanity.

Tip #1 Take Turns
When the baby starts crying both parents generally wake up, even if only one attends to the baby. However, in the first couple of months both parents might get up each time the baby cries. This will lead to a lack of sleep for both parents. The best plan is for mom and dad to make a plan of who will get up when to comfort the crying baby. Generally, taking turns is really the best option and will help everyone get just a little more sleep.

Tip #2 Nap With Baby
If you are caring for the baby and are tired and the baby goes to sleep then you should take a nap as well. This will allow you to get some much needed sleep. So, whether the baby naps in the morning, afternoon, or early evening you should also get a little rest because you never know when the baby might wake up.

 Tip #3 Accept Help
Frequently when you have a new baby there are plenty of people willing to help from parents, siblings, friends, and other family members. So, when you really need to get some sleep just accept some of the help that is being offered. Having your mom care for the baby just a couple of hours will allow you to get some much needed sleep.

Tip #4 Keep Baby in Nursery
The baby should sleep in the nursery and not with the parents. Many times it is tempting to allow the baby to sleep with the parents, but this is not healthy for the child or the parents. So, put the baby to sleep in his crib in the nursery. Then, when the baby cries one parent can easily go attend to the baby without disturbing the other parent. This allows a little more sleep for new parents.

Tip #5 Feed Baby Before You Sleep
If your baby has been asleep for several hours and it is around 11 pm and you are getting ready for bed simply wake baby for a feeding. Most babies wake during the night because they are hungry, so if you feed baby late before you go to bed it is likely they will sleep until early morning or 6-7 hours. This will allow you to get some continuous sleep, even if it is not as much as you want.

Body After the Birth

Many new moms concentrate on one thing, and that is taking care and looking after their new born baby. After all, they have just given birth to a little one that is completely helpless and reliant on you to take care of them. It certainly is a big responsibility. However, the very best way you can look after your new baby is to look after yourself too. The better you take care of yourself during this time, the better you will be able to take care of your baby.

fat is bad news for baby

Paediatric endocrinologist, Archana Arya, treats obese children at the Centre for Child Health in Gangaram Hospital all the time, but even she was surprised to see a 14-month-old baby weigh 17 kg last week.
The boy's weight should have been between 8 and 11 kg. After ruling out all clinical causes of his obesity — hypothyroidism, pituitary gland disorder or genetic syndromes which may cause weight gain — Arya concluded that the baby was obese because he was being fed every one hour.

baby Breastfeeding

In the era of plastic breasts, fast life and artificial baby feeds and multiple baby pacifiers, breastfeeding is becoming redundant and old-fashioned. Mothers want to maintain their figures like those of celebrities; they care less for their infants and more for their perfect figures.

Breast milk is the most wholesome and nutritious diet for the new born. It consists of nutrients and antibodies against various bacteria and immunoglobulins which are absent in formula and packaged baby powders or even cow's milk and buffalo's milk. It fulfills all the needs of the baby. Breast feeding is usually advised for six to nine months in normal infants and for twelve to fifteen months in pre-term infants. Breast feeding protects the infant from many infectious diseases, prevents or delays many lifestyle disorders, and also strengthens the emotional and intellectual bond between mother and infant.

baby Teething

How long has it been since you've had a decent eight hours sleep at night? So what's with your baby anyway? What makes him cry at night just as you're dropping off to sleep? He's had a nice, warm bath and a good feed and he should be sound asleep. Yet he is irritable, fussy, and cranky? It couldn't be...? Oh... but it could! And most of the times, it is... teething – that transition from a toothless wonder to a chomping, chewing... whatever. As you already know, babies have no fixed time to do anything. And you have no say in the matter. Teething is one of those ‘anythings.'

Though most babies usually cut their first tooth before four to seven months, some babies may begin teething as early as three months and may continue up to three years. For some babies the process may hurt and for some, the course of sprouting those little incisors may be absolutely worry-free and pain-free. And since you are the one who's losing sleep, we'll explain to you a little about teething blues.

A budding tooth may cause painful, swollen gums. Chomping and chewing on just about anything brings relief to the gums. And if you're breastfeeding the baby, be careful, you're liable to get hurt. But keep in mind that red, swollen gums get back to normal once the tooth appears.

Here's where your sleep gets disturbed. The tooth moves through the bone and gums in stages and is more active at night resulting in irritability and fussiness. And if you've seen your infant pulling his ear and thought he had gone crazy, relax. Like ear infections, pain in the jaw during teething reaches the ear canal and he's simply trying to get rid of it. He's not crazy.

You are used to his intermittent drooling – no problem there. But don't panic when he starts to drool heavily. That's the first sign of teething. But there's a small point here to be noted. Not all drooling infants start teething.

There's another point to be noted and this one's important. Sometimes drooling may be so heavy, babies can choke in it. Rashes may appear on the child's chin, neck, or chest because of constantly wet clothes. Use a bib to keep the skin dry.

Don't be overly alarmed if your baby cries to be breastfed again. Due to swollen and inflamed gums spoon-feeding may hurt him. Conversely, your child may prefer solid foods because biting on food creates counter pressure that brings him relief. Now that you know why your child keeps you awake at night, grab a bit of sleep during the day

Baby 6 Quick Survival

1. Prioritize the "shoulds."
Many of today's moms set expectations for themselves that go beyond the realistic. According to Trisha Ashworth and Amy Nobile, authors of the book "I Was a Really Good Mom Before I Had Kids," "We're all trying to live up to this image of what we think a 'good mom' looks like, and it's virtually impossible to fulfill.” You may have so many "shoulds" it can leave you feeling overwhelmed and guilt-ridden. For example, "I should keep the house looking good for guests who drop by to see the baby." First, be honest about how you feel. Then list all of those "shoulds" and prioritize them, eliminating items when you can. Remember, there's no perfect road map for mothering.

Crying Baby

The primary reason and theory for baby crying is to communicate needs and discomforts that require outside intervention. This stress mechanism of crying can allow children and babies to heal from the effects of a frustrating day, fearful moment for a difficult situation.

Many a frustrated parent would give almost anything at times to stop a baby from crying or even soothe and calm a baby's crying so they can get them to sleep.

Remember that one of the top reasons a baby cries is because of a problem with a diaper. And the second thing to remember is one of the top ways to get a baby to stop crying is with the right baby toy.
Soothe a Crying Baby by Satisfying These Basic Infant Needs

   1. Is your baby hungry or thirsty?
Try a feeding your baby a bottle of warm milk or formula.

   2. Is your baby too warm or too cold?
Make sure your baby's attire is appropriate for the weather.

   3. Does your baby need a diaper change?
Check your baby's diaper for any sign of uncomfortable wetness.

   4. Is your baby over tired or missed a regular nap?
Try rocking your baby to sleep.

   5. Does your baby feel scared or vulnerable?
Try making intentional eye contact with your baby.

   6. Does your baby have symptoms of colic or need to be burped?
Try placing your baby over your shoulder and gently rubbing or patting your baby's back.

   7. Is your baby teething?
Try a teething ring or chewable food.

   8. Is your baby bored?
Try a game of peak-a-boo or read a story with enthusiasm.

   9. Is your baby irritable?
Try singing your baby a song or going for a walk.

Homemade Baby Food

There are lots of good, high quality, organic baby foods out there, but making your own from scratch means that you'll know where it came from and what went into it. It's not difficult; just a little time consuming, but it can also give siblings, dads and grandparents something to contribute when they may be feeling left out of dealing with your new infant. You can make your own baby food easily using a food grinder or food processor. It's a fun way to make your baby a meal!

1. Homemade baby food looks better because it comes from fresh, homemade food. Factory packed baby food can't hold a candle to the broccoli that you steamed just ten minutes ago! And cereal products will be tastier made at home from ground oatmeal, cooked and puree barley and other whole grains. Just steam them and grind with a little water.

2. The colors are fresher, and you don't have to add preservatives. Just keep it in the fridge or make a lot at once and freeze it in tiny containers. Fill up ice cube trays with the pureed food, freeze them solid and then store in ziplock bags. Label the bags so you'll know what's in them in a month or two, and if you're keeping track of potential food allergies, write the ingredients in magic marker right on the bags. When you're ready to feed the baby, take 2-4 cubes from the freezer, microwave them (usually 30-60 seconds, depending on the power of your microwave), check they're the right temperature and serve.

3. You can go organic without paying such high prices. A little baby sized bowl of your home made, organic, pureed spinach will cost you about a nickel instead of $2.00 or more. And it will taste good enough for even grownups to eat!

4. You can choose the ingredients! Spice up a recipe for ground carrots by adding a little apple or orange juice instead of blending the carrots with plain water. Make baby food from soft fruits like strawberries with yogurt. Don't bother with bananas, though. It's as simple to mash a banana on the spot as it is to create a banana puree that will just be watery and brown after processing and freezing. You can cook and puree meats, veggies, grains and fruits of your choice, knowing that your baby is getting the best baby food ever for less than half the cost of store-bought foods.

5. You can control your baby's nutrition and overall health better when you know what's in the baby food. With no preservatives, no added sugar or food colors, your baby food will be les likely to cause stomach upsets or allergic reactions in your child. And you can ease your baby into eating solid foods by grinding the baby food coarser over time.

Power of Reading

Reading to your child at a young age is one of the most effective tools for expanding his mind and instilling a lifelong love of learning. Reading a good book allows your child to travel to places she has never been, to meet people she has never met, and to develop an understanding of how to deal with a variety of physical and emotional situations.

Reading to your child also helps you develop an emotional connection. Whether you have her cuddle up in your lap, nestle with him while he is winding down for bed, or read to her while waiting for food in a restaurant, you are connecting. Reading to your child from an early age will also help him be successful in school. Reading out loud will help him learn language and become familiar with words. Reading is the foundation for developing an understanding of conceptual information and it sparks imagination!

Your child is never to young to be read to. Frankly, you should begin reading to your child while in the womb. During this time, use reading as a way of familiarizing the baby to your voice. If both parents take turns reading, it is even better. Imagine, before the baby is even born, the act of reading helps you connect and it can help parents reconnect with each other. When your child is born, the adventure begins. During the "easy" phase of infancy when your child is not physically able to explore his/her world, reading to your child helps him feel loved and comforted. Nestled in your arms with a favorite picture book, your baby will, at first, seem unaware of what is going on. But is she?

When my daughters were infants, I would read a series of picture books called the "Find The" board books by Stephen Cartwright. These books have lively illustrations, but no words. Guided by a series of images that included pictures of children and animals, each book asked children to find the piglet, the duck, the teddy, the puppy, the bird, or the kitten. When my daughters were very small, I would hold the book in front of them and while their heads wobbled about, I would ask, "Ceiley, where's the bird." Of course, there was no response, so I would point out where the bird was and, in doing so, I would describe the picture and put it into context. For several months, I would pull out the book and ask, "Where's the piglet!" One day, an interesting thing happened. When I asked the magical question, my daughter lifted a chubby finger and pointed to the piglet. Had she understood what I had been saying all along? I will probably never know but one thing is certain, before the age of one, she knew what a piglet was, what the word "find" meant, and she used her magnificent brain to tell her finger to point to the picture of the pig. All because I read a book. Her mind was indeed a blank slate upon which I could impress ideas and concepts.

Reading to your child should become second nature. Anytime, anywhere is an opportunity to read to your child. During the hectic toddler days, books can be lifesavers in public places. If you have to stand in line at a bank, take a book bag along filled with engaging books that your child enjoys. Before they get fussy, take out a book and start reading. Yes, it is very difficult to read to your child while you are holding him and standing up at the same time! Instead, put her in a stroller and bend down. As you read to your child, you are using your time preciously. By bending down, you are coming down to his level. By reading, you are expanding her knowledge and growing neurons. Make your waiting time, his reading time!

Reading while waiting also works well if you have several children with you. Although my daughters are 11 and 6, my oldest daughter will still lean over and read along to the book I am reading to my youngest, despite carrying along her own stash of Harry Potter and Manga books. The key is that, by making reading part of your child's everyday experiences, she will come to expect that reading is the norm.

If you are not a reader and do not enjoy reading, you have a great obstacle to overcome. If you do not enjoy reading and/or you were not brought up with reading in the home, it will be doubly difficult for you to get in the habit of reading. Please, don't let this stop you! The exciting thing about being human is that you can change anytime. Start slowly. Find a topic that interests you and start reading. Buy a bookcase and make it a goal to slowly fill it up with children's books, classics, or whatever else suits your fancy.

Read to your child. Engage his imagination. Don't assume that children read at a certain age. There are so many things that you can do to prepare them for the day when they start to decipher letters and words on their own. Lay the foundation early in life and your child will reap wonderful rewards.
